P003 → 5 Hours

5 hours is a Project with multiple outcomes. I Sat on the road ‘Lower Castle St’ for 5 hours and documented every piece of information I couuld collect, this ranged from how many people i saw walking through one certain spot in my eye-line, to what shapes, colours and letters I could see surrounding the Area. I tried to collect a multitude of different types of data, from analytical to visual.

I then used the findings to create a typeface used in a tryptich of posters as well as an interactive scavenger hunt designed like a
road sign.

The typeface was created using photographs i’d found of items and objects that appeared to me as letterforms, this ranged from the shapes of waslls on buildings, to the cracks on the floor. i thresholded and cut out each section of the image that i wanted to use for the type.

I then found that I liked how the shapes all played together and created some illustrative outcomes for fun.
    1. Angler Fish
    2. Warrior

Using poems that I had written from sitting at Lower Castle street I created a tryptich of posters that were riso printed on 200GSM high-tooth paper, these were distributed around Lower Castle street for passers-by to stop and read if they were inclined.

I designed an interactive scavenger hunt that imitated a road sign with the intention in mind that it would blend into the natural surroundings, I printed the design using Dye-sublimation to get the image on metal, the effect came out with a gold tint which I preferred to the yellow as it stood out against the other road signs.
